SuperMaxx Hardened Steel Idler Gears for E-Maxx Transmission
The Traxxas E-Maxx transmission has proven itself to be a robust and reliable design over the years. However, one component has consistently emerged as the weak link: the stock plastic idler gears (Traxxas® Part #3996).
Even in stock applications, many owners eventually experience idler gear failures after extended use. During development of the SuperE-Chassis and high-power brushless testing, we found that increased power levels and higher battery voltages could destroy a set of stock idler gears in a remarkably short period of time.
We knew there had to be a better solution.
The result is the SuperMaxx Hardened Steel Idler Gear Set—a direct replacement engineered specifically to eliminate this common failure point and provide the durability required for high-performance applications.

Proven Under Extreme Testing
These gears were developed and tested under some of the harshest conditions imaginable. During final testing, repeated full-throttle drop tests were performed with a high-powered dual brushless vehicle. While other drivetrain components eventually failed under the abuse, the hardened steel idler gears continued operating without issue.
The result is a gear set that dramatically exceeds the strength and durability of the original plastic components.
Simple Installation
Installation is straightforward and requires no modifications to the transmission housing or other internal components.
Simply follow the factory transmission exploded diagram and replace the stock plastic idler gears with the hardened steel gears.
Lubrication Recommendation
For maximum service life, we strongly recommend using a quality gear grease during assembly (not included).
While the stock transmission is often operated dry, the speeds and loads encountered in performance applications benefit significantly from proper lubrication. Grease helps reduce wear, improve efficiency, and extend component life.
