High Voltage Lightning™ Brushless Monster Truck Chassis
Unlimited Engineering once again pushes the boundaries of RC monster truck performance with the all-new High Voltage Lightning™ chassis.
The project began when we revisited one of our original Lightning chassis and attempted to modernize it for today’s brushless power systems. While the original platform had served well, it became clear that a clean-sheet redesign was needed to fully take advantage of modern motors, batteries, electronics, and drivetrain technology.
The result is the High Voltage Lightning™—a purpose-built brushless monster truck chassis engineered from the ground up for strength, adjustability, low center of gravity, and uncompromising performance.
Designed for Modern Brushless Power
The HV Lightning was developed specifically around modern high-performance brushless systems. Every aspect of the chassis was designed to provide:
- Low center of gravity for racing
- Sufficient ground clearance for monster truck performance
- Exceptional chassis rigidity
- Adjustable weight distribution
- Easy maintenance and serviceability
While classified as a Monster Truck under ROAR rules, the HV Lightning is equally capable on the racetrack and performs exceptionally well in truggy-class competition.
Monocoque Chassis Construction
The rigid monocoque design creates a strong and lightweight structure capable of handling the abuse associated with both racing and hardcore bashing.
Extensive testing has demonstrated outstanding chassis rigidity and durability, making the HV Lightning equally at home on the racetrack or in the backyard.
Adjustable Battery Positioning
Dual battery trays allow the vehicle’s center of gravity to be fine-tuned for different track conditions and driving styles.
The system supports:
- Dual battery saddle mounting
- Single battery configuration
- Adjustable tray positioning for CG tuning
This flexibility allows the chassis to be optimized for racing, bashing, or long-runtime applications.
Available Configurations
Two versions are available:
- HV Lightning for Victory Bulkless System (VBS) bulkheads
- HV Lightning for stock-style Maxx bulkheads
This versatility allows builders to configure the chassis around existing components or a fully upgraded Unlimited Engineering drivetrain.

Key Specifications
- Approximately 50 grams lighter than a Lightning chassis with Monoblock
- Up to 150 grams lighter when configured with a single battery
- Wheelbase equivalent to SuperMaxx Thunder/Lightning and Monoblock platforms
- Approximately 372 mm differential-to-differential wheelbase
- Approximately 394 mm axle-to-axle with RacerX setbacks
- Designed to fit either VBS or standard Maxx bulkheads
- Compatible with a wide range of center differential configurations
Power System Compatibility
Designed around:
- Tekin systems with 1350 or 1550 motors on 6S
- Tekin/Castle 2200 systems on 4S
The chassis was intentionally designed to support virtually any modern buggy or truggy center differential, including:
- Standard gear differentials
- Slipperential designs
- Torsen differentials
- Straight-shaft center differentials
Transmission clearance accommodates:
- Up to 35.5 mm transmission length
- Up to 52T 1.0-module spur gears
- 11T–18T pinions
Monster Motor Compatible
Generation 2 chassis kits include additional clearance for larger motors such as:
- Castle 1717
- Castle 1520
While these larger motors fit within the chassis, gearing options may become limited due to motor diameter. For most applications, the 1515-series motors provide more than adequate performance for racing and general use.
To Complete a Truck You’ll Need
- Complete Maxx front and rear suspension assemblies
- Preferably upgraded to 1/8-scale differentials
- Motor and speed control
- Standard radio equipment
- 1/8-scale center differential and pinion gear
- Radio system with adjustable endpoints

This flexibility accommodates a wide variety of modern LiPo battery packs.
