HD's chrome frame cover & chrome button

What is everyone doing with the hole left by the ignition switch in the side fuel tank cover. I saw someone who put a chrome plug in the hole, but didn't say where they got it or what the part number is.

I just used some clear RTV on the back of the button and stuck the button in the empty space, looks pretty good, when I get my bike out I'll try and post some pics.

What button are you talking about? I don't have the chrome button to put in the hole. I don't have the part number and I don't know where to get it.

    chrome plug

I went ahead and ordered the part from the HD dealer. Its only $10. I have seen pictures of the plug in the hole, and it looks good, but I don't know where I saw it at. Just order the part an put it in. What else are you going to do with the hole? Zimmy

    Chrome Plug

    Pull Cord,
Go to fuel tank support and look for a post PARTS NEEDED by Joeeey. He has a link that will show the chrome plug in the side cover hole. Good luck, ZIMMY

Thanks zimmy. Found the pic. I have the cover that sits inside the frame space rather than going over the front part of the frame space. Should be the same size hole though. That will clean it up nicely.

    chrome plug

I received my chrome plug (seat release button) today and its not what I thought it would be, but it will work. Plug drops clear to the bottom of the hole instead of at the top of the hole. At least it plugs the hole. Zimmy

I haven't seen them, but here's an idea to make it flush.

put a bead of shoo good around the bottom lip, push the button in until it's flush, set the whole thing on it's face and let it dry.

    Chrome Button

Ok, I'll take a look at it. I might just use silicone caulk because I already have it. Anyway, thanks for the idea. Zimmy

By the way the "inside the frame" chrome covers still work with the gas tank. They don't even have the metal prongs the other one has. No mods needed.

    chrome plug

I see that the chrome cover hole where the switch went has a tapered hole. I guess I'll just glue the plug to the bottom of the hole and be done with it. Zimmy
