About Us

sm1 in the skyThe owner at Unlimited Engineering grew up a farm boy where he learned not only to use spit and bailing wire to keep something together to the end of the day, but also how to make a proper repair (often with modifications) so you weren’t plagued with that particular problem again. Out of High School, he knocked around for a few years mostly working with his hands at some sort of skilled labor job (building houses, road construction, fabrication, etc) and went back to college in his mid 20s. Best choice ever. With fresh sheepskin in hand he worked on some really interesting projects like: designed a blood analyzer, tested new tower crane designs, ran jobsites in places like Three Gorges, China, worked as an application engineer for a major CAD company, did a lot of engineering consulting and finally started his own company…again.
Unlimited Engineering was born in 1999 as solution to the original T-Maxx’s suspension issues, the SuperMaxx EXT Suspension. The goal was a bit ridiculous, sending these little machines off huge jumps at high speed, expecting them to survive when re-encountering mother earth. But much to our surprise (and many others) the SuperMaxx gear would take it. Like they say: “if you build it they will come” and pretty soon a whole new industry too off, the owner had no time for consulting and UE became a full time job.

dscn0028Over the next decade or so UE matured and made original products for the ‘Maxx like the RacerX products, Servo Saver, Victory Bulkless System, Thunder, Lighning, Razorback, Predator and High Voltage Lightning chassis, essentially reinventing the Maxx from the ground up to be a high performance, lightweight race capable vehicle which can also withstand the rigors of being ‘bashed in the backyard’ too.

Flash2-28-05cIn 2003 the owner of UE bought a Harley Davidson V-Rod. By the end of an adventure in ’05 he had run out of fuel no less than 5 times. Enough was enough, the miniscule tank on the original V-Rod had to go. With no one else stepping up, UE tackled the project of making a bigger fuel tank for the ‘02+ Harley V-Rod. It was a difficult project, but success comes to those who persevere and the 5.25 Gallon fuel tank was release to the public in February of ’06.

2011 found the world in a different place. We had survived the global recession, but it was time to make some money, so when a former employer called me and asked me to design the tower cranes which would build the new Panama Canal, I jumped at the chance. Downside to it is that the job is in Chicago. So all of ’11 I commuted to Chicago and back, but I designed and oversaw the building of the prototype Tower Crane and the 7 additional cranes needed for the job. It was lots of fun, but commuting from Greenville, SC to Hampshire, IL every week was a real drag so when it came to an end, it had been a great experience, though there weren’t many tears. https://www.unlimitedengineering.com/gallery/files/1/hdterexcopy_913628.jpg

SuperArmor BackyardOne of those long nights sitting in the airport I dreamed up a new front end for a full size pickup truck. You see, back in the ’90s I built tube bumpers for trucks. Being a truck guy I was always crafting up new ideas and implementing them, one at a time. I wanted to take everything I’ve learned in 30 years and implement it. This was yet another difficult project and is still ongoing.

And that brings us up to 2015 where we are working on several exciting new projects, one of which (if you are seeing this) is the website and we are thrilled to have that one off the list. ATV parts – we’ve just gotten the scans back. Losi 5ive High Voltage Lightning Chassis is on the drawing board. Rear bumpers for full size trucks. And Lots more.
