High Voltage Lightning, Pre-Order opens NOW!

Here we go folks, the preorder opens today. I was able to squeeze a little more off the price so the preorder is $499 saving you $200 off MSRP.

Time wise, I've been given a 30-60 day window. Please don't take this as gospel, this window is very aggressive and IMHO is likely to slip to 90 days. Then again, the prototypes came in right on time so maybe...

This is going to be a different kind of preorder which I hope goes smoothly.
Normally we don't charge until we ship but because of the length of this preorder it's likely that the authorizations would expire and leave us having to repeat the orders when the kits come in. So this will be classified as a SPECIAL ORDER which allows us to charge when the order comes in even though it's not shipping yet.
You'll place your order. I'll complete the process, you'll get ship notifications, tracking numbers and all that, but these will sit in a file until kits come in.

All updates will be done via the forums.

Fred

Use the 'postal billing' option on the last page of checkout. Get me to update the shipping manually. Print it and send it in with a money order. USD please. I won't cash it until we ship them.

Two For Me

I'm in for one to start, but I want one of each. I am glad that you are taking this slow for release, because I am in the midst of paying for our summer vacation travels at the moment (about $8K). I should have that paid off by the end of May. I think there are a lot more people interested on this project, but money is tight with the state of our economy these days. I am pretty sure that I will end up spending $3 to $5 thousand in your store this year if you fill the shelves, and I know I am not the only one. Build it and they will come.

MM > A quick question if you don't mind:

- I have bought myself a 4092 sized motor. Would a motor that is 92mm lomg be able to fit on the High Voltage Lightning - 'Stock' Bulkhead Edition?

The 1520 is 88mm and it barely fits...at minimum gearing.
That's probably a more powerful motor so your gearing will be quite a bit taller, thereby lifting the motor out of the chassis.
So you might get away with it, but it's iffy.

The credit card process is three steps
Authorization - that's what you do when you order
Capture - that's what I do when I normally fill the order, or in this case process it and keep it in a file
Settlement - that's where the gateway actually processes the card and is when the funds change hands.

I haven't captured any transactions yet, authorizations are good for 30 days. I'm just holding off until we get a little closer, I'll probably do them all Friday so we don't have to redo any orders.

I think we are still good.

Have you received any updates regarding a more accurate date of completion of the kits? Just trying to guage how much time I have left to still get in on the pre-order price.

I'm assuming (just by reading the pre-order page in the store) that the pre-order deadline is when Robin has parts in hand.

And I realize, given this^ statement, we've probably got a good amount of time left still. But since we're almost a month into it now, I figured I'd ask, as there might be a better idea of when they'll be done now.

I don't think anything has changed on the timeline.

I did process the credit card orders last night, all seemed to go ok.

I've gotten word from the machine shop.

I asked: 90 day window will be 7-21, essentially 5 weeks from now. Do you think you'll get it done?

Answer: I can see that happening

So there you have it folks, sounds like we'll make the 90 day window...which I think is great considering the complexity of this kit and going from prototypes to production.

Tunnels will be done in the next two weeks so they are on track.

Eric and I will be testing a new servo tray option which puts the steering servo in a more traditional location. I still prefer the down inside location as opposed to the hanging off the side version, but it is more difficult to work on if you bust something.

Getting together hardware kits and whatnot. Guess I'll be writing another set of instructions soon.

We've even got Dan (BubberJones) working on updating the forum and a brand new store (that'll be the 6th generation ecommerce site for us.)

You now know as much as I do.

I think this ^ explains why we have shipping notifications so far ahead of time. I'm sure some of the first people to order already got these notifications a while back.

Robin just pushed our payments through, which in turn updated our order status, and created UPS numbers. The wait is still on, or at least I'm assuming.

Unless there has been an updated ETA??

No. The estimated time of arrival is still 7/21. I have to process orders within 30 days or the authorization expires.

Just an FIY: I dump these funds into a special savings account for use only to pay for production HVL parts.

Tunnels are done and in plating.
The rest is in various states of completion, but it doesn't look like we are going to make it by the 21st.
Estimate based on where we are today is another 2-3 weeks.
Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for the pictures Robin, I like seeing stuff like this. The trays are pretty awesome.

Crazy seeing the center diff/motor mounts laying there all lined up like that.
